The treatment facility must be operational for iron concentrations of up to 30 mg/L. The controlling process parameter is the oxidation rate of iron (ll). The necessary residence time within the treatment area is determined by the iron concentration in the groundwater. For sustainable iron retention, special facility designs need to be developed. Thus, all treatment facilities for iron oxidation and retention are adjusted to local conditions.
Local iron retention in streams
Within the depression cone created by local pumping wells, streams are provided with the pumped groundwater. This groundwater is often ferrous, but potentially non- acidic. Locally adjusted solutions are expected to ensure ventilation, oxidation and retention of iron.
